Exploring Creation with Chemistry

Exploring Creation With ChemistryAbout Dr. Wile

Who is he and what qualifies him to teach this course?

When his parents bought him his first chemistry kit, Dr. Jay L. Wile discovered his great love for the science. As a young man, however, he also was considering the careers of an actor and that of a concert pianist. But both fell by the wayside as chemistry grabbed his complete interest. In New York, he attended the University of Rochester, where he studied . . . chemistry! While there, he became so fascinated with nuclear chemistry that he earned his Ph. D. in it. For a number of years, Dr. Wile performed nuclear research for the Department of Energy and the National Science Foundation. As a result of his investigations, Wile received many recognitions and the publication of a countless number of works. While researching, Dr. Wile also taught as an assistant chemistry professor. Over the years, Dr. Wile has won numerous awards for excellence in teaching and research. He has spoken on issues such as homeschooling, Creation vs. Evolution, Nuclear Chemistry, and Christian Apologetics. More than thirty of his articles have been printed in nationally-recognized publications and he has published nine books. Dr. Wile has teaching credits from The University of Rochester, Indiana University, Ball State University, and The Indiana Academy for Science, Mathematics, and Humanities (a high school for highly gifted students). He currently focuses on constructing science courses and traveling around the country and world speaking as an advocate for homeschooling.

Why did he write this curriculum?

It all started when a local group of homeschoolers requested a good science curriculum that acknowledged God as Creator. In response, Dr. Wile put efforts into creating a course for them, piece by piece. At that time, though, his only hopes were to help local homeschoolers with a college-preparatory curriculum. Little did he know . . . Now, his courses are sold all across the United States and Canada, as well as in many other countries.

About the Course

What kinds of things does it teach and what will it prepare the student for? This course clearly and accurately teaches foundational chemistry knowledge. Modules focus on, but are not limited to, instruction in atomic structure, molecular structure, stoichiometry, energy/heat/temperature, and acid/base chemistry. All these important principles prepare the high school student for college. The course is designed so that the student can study either independently or with others.

This is what a student had to say after completing this course: “Your first year Chemistry book helped me a great deal in an introductory Chemistry class I took this past spring at a local community college. In the class, many of the concepts you taught were covered. This helped me to earn an ‘A’ average in the class with little or no difficulty. It was great.”

Why this course is easy to learn from?

The formatting of the text is easy to follow and fun to learn from. Each of the sixteen modules takes an average of two weeks, with a test at the end of each.

On Your Own Questions: Periodic “On Your Own” questions make sure the student fully understands a concept before moving on. These questions are important to ensure a complete grasp of foundational concepts so that later on in the course, the student does not become frustrated because of an incomplete concept understanding. Many “On Your Own” questions are preceded by example problems to first give the student a chance to see a problem worked through.

Experiments: Experiments are performed with common, around-the-house materials so that there is little extra expense. They are directed with easy-to-understand instructions and clear explanations. Especially helpful for visual learners, these experiments put to life previously learned concepts.

Review questions: Review questions at the end of each module prepare the student for the test and make certain that the content of the past module was fully grasped.

Practice Problems: If a student is having difficulty solving a certain type of mathematical equation or problem, there is an easy solution. Practice problems at the end of each module can be referenced at any time, if needed.

Tests: Tests are clearly written and directly taken from the text. Tests can be prepared for by studying the “review questions.”

Quarterly exams: Quarterly exams check the student’s memory of the past four modules. By reviewing previous tests, the student can adequately prepare for the quarterly exams.

By the time the student has completed the text, exercises, and tests, the material will be fully grounded and understood.

What else has Dr. Wile written?

Dr. Wile has crafted courses for the following:

Note from the Author: I have personally taken this course, so the above statements I have written from experience. While thoroughly enjoying the course, I have also learned more than I thought possible to learn is one short year. I have a better understanding of what chemistry is and why it is important. I know that I am well prepared for my future goal of nursing school and whatever science courses I take between now and then. Also, this course has left me even more firmly grounded in my faith that the universe was created by an Almighty Maker and in no way could have happened “by chance.”
